In cooperation with the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District, the Mental Health Association administers the program at the  Fonda-Fultonville Elementary and Middle Schools!

In an effort to provide the best program and to ensure the safety of our students, parents must complete an enrollment packet. The packet is available from the Middle and Elementary School offices or may be downloaded individually below (note that all forms are PFD)

ELIGIBILITY

Enrollment is open to any Elementary and Middle School student living within the school district, with preference given to students with parents working during these hours, or students recommended to attend by school personnel.

All submitted paperwork must be complete before a student is registered.  Parents are notified by the AASP of the student’s start date. Enrollment packets are available in the Elementary and Middle Schools Offices.

HOURS

The program operates from 2:30 to 5:30 pm every day that school is in session a full day.  Late fees are charged if a student is not picked up on time.

AASP is NOT a “drop-in” program.  Students are strongly encouraged to attend five days per week.

LICENSE ~ FUNDING

The program is licensed by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and complies with the NYS School-Age Child Care Regulations.

Administered by the Mental Health Association In Fulton and Montgomery Counties, the Advantage After  School Program is funded by means of a grant that extends through September 2014. There is no fee to attend.

Student SIGN-IN / Parent PICK-UP

Following dismissal, students report to Program to sign-in. Transportation home is not provided.  Students must be signed-out by a parent or person listed on the enrollment form.

“WRAP AROUND”

Students who participate in other after school activities such as sports and band may still participate in the Advantage ASP using “Wrap Around.”  At dismissal, students sign in to program,   may have snack and leave to attend their other activities at the set time.  Then, students may return to the program and work on homework or    participate in activities until they are signed-out to go home.  This enables students to be supervised between after school activities.

HOMEWORK

Students are expected to bring to program all homework materials including agendas, textbooks and worksheets.  Additionally, they are expected to actively participate in the process of completing assignments, request assistance as needed, work quietly and be considerate of others.

Parents are strongly encouraged to check their child’s homework and agendas nightly for notes or comments from school and program staff.

FAMILY INVOLVEMENT

Parents are encouraged to participate in the program as well as provide input and ideas.  Families attend our Family Days which focus on parent-child interactions and a light supper is served.  There are plenty of ways that parents can become involved:

  • Help plan and attend our special events,  including our Family Days

  • Provide enrichment activities (in past years,  parents have baked, played sports and offered music activities)

  • Offer assistance to staff during program time

  • Help students with homework

  • Teach a skill such as woodworking, knitting or cooking a specialty food

SCHEDULE

Students are provided a snack and time to complete homework with staff

assistance before participating in other activities.  All activities take place within the school building or on school grounds.

The AASP offers a wide variety of activities to help in the development of young children and adolescents.  Group activities and presentations aim to improve students’ social, emotional and academic skills.  Topics address body image, nutrition, safety, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, use of tobacco, drugs and alcohol, as well as exploring careers and preventing violence.  A typical schedule is as follows:

2:30 pm             Students Sign In, eat Snack

                    2:50 pm             Homework begins

                    3:30 /4 pm         Presentations / Activities / Clubs

5:00 pm             Board games, quiet activities

5:30 pm             Program closes. Late fees apply
